call for deforestation campaign

Project Scope:
Multi-National
Project Abstract:
We Greens call on our governments to strengthen and speed up the implementation of taking action against unlawful deforestation all over the planet.

CO2 emissions in developing countries are extraordinarily large due to the recession and depletion of forests. Since their communities are already fragile, taking appropriate steps to prevent the situation is needed. Besides, it is essential to tackle the major problems surrounding forest governance, corruption and inappropriate trade of forest products.

In enforcing early control measures to prevent further recession and depletion of forest, industrialised countries have to realize that they are partly responsible for the problem, in their significant consumption of illegally produced forest products.

Thus, those rich countries should not delay in extending specific measures and implementation, such as improving regulatory system for controlling illegal trade of timbers, introduction and strengthening of forest products license system and giving support to improve the transparency of the countries in question.

We (ECOLO JAPAN) http://lp.jiyu.net/ecolo-eng.htm as Green think tank will submit the following statement for 21 point action plan but at the same time, we would like to suggest that its contents be included and considered in the plenary session as well.
